The history of this game began on 1976, but in the 30-odd years since then, it has been registered as an international sport. The World Toe Wrestling Championship started at a pub, in Wetton, Derbyshire of United Kingdom. The locals of "Ye Olde Royal Oak Inn", one of the famous location in that city have come out with an idea to hold a toe wrestling competition, where the contestants of this game have to lock their big toes together and try at their best to force their opponents' foot to the ground.

This type of championship is held separately, which is for both men and women to prevent from any gender bias. In both tournament, all contestants have to attend a preliminary examination where they have to check their feet cleanliness and health in order to avoid from any fungal infections occurred while playing this game. When both wrestlers are ready, they lock toes on a "toesrack" and begin wrestling by making sure that they keep their bottoms on the ground at all times untill their opponent's foot off the "toesrack". This weird championship have grown strong at Bentley Brook Inn, near Ashbourne on the Staffordshire/Derbyshire border.
